MUBI is a global streaming service, production company, and film distributor dedicated to elevating great cinema. We're seeking a Senior Product Data Scientist to drive engagement and retention through data-informed decision-making and experimentation.
You'll operate at the intersection of product analytics and data science. Part of your time will be embedded within the Engagement & Discovery squad, working directly with product managers, engineers, and designers as the data voice in a multidisciplinary team. The remainder of your time will be spent within the Data Science team on deeper analyses and models that shape how MUBI acquires, engages, and retains subscribers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Championing a culture of experimentation by establishing frameworks, metrics, and habits that make A/B testing and rigorous experimentation the default approach to product decisions. You'll design tests, define success and guardrail metrics, analyze results, and own recommendations on whether to ship features.
- Embedding with product delivery teams to shape roadmaps with data—sizing opportunities, defining metrics for new features, and ensuring the organization learns from everything shipped.
- Proposing analyses, models, and experiments that teams didn't know to ask for, communicating findings clearly to product managers, engineers, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Independently investigating what drives subscriber engagement and retention across viewing behavior, curation, pricing, and lifecycle stages, turning insights into actionable recommendations.
- Developing churn and propensity models, LTV estimates, and behavioral segmentations that inform targeting, retention, and subscriber delight strategies.
- Leveraging AI tools like Claude Code to accelerate analysis and modeling, and helping the team adopt similar approaches.
The ideal candidate is independently curious about how MUBI's business works and brings their own ideas to the team rather than waiting to be handed questions.
Requirements:
- 3–5 years of experience in product analytics, product data science, or similar role, ideally in consumer subscription or digital product businesses
- Strong grounding in data science methods: statistics, experimentation, and machine learning, ideally with a postgraduate qualification in data science, statistics, or related quantitative field
- Strong SQL and Python skills—core to the role, used daily for analysis and modeling
- Hands-on experience designing, running, and analyzing experiments with solid statistical grounding to know when A/B testing is inappropriate
- Familiarity with Claude Code or similar AI tools and appetite for leveraging them to improve speed and quality
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to translate analyses into clear recommendations for diverse stakeholders
- Independent mindset and genuine curiosity about subscription business drivers; self-directed in generating questions
- Detail-oriented and pragmatic with a "no task too small" attitude
Nice to have:
- Experience with dbt for developing data products
- Familiarity with Snowflake and modern BI tools (MUBI uses Omni)
- Experience in fast-paced, high-growth environments (startup or scale-up)
- Genuine interest in film and MUBI's mission
