Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join the SPARC Cryoplant (CRYP) team. The CRYP team is responsible for delivering a large-scale helium cryogenics plant system on-time, on-budget, and meeting all technical and performance requirements. The team is currently executing a fast-tracked install and commissioning phase to validate SPARC requirements prior to handoff to Operations.
The cryoplant system is a complex, integrated facility featuring 4 MW of compressor power, 500 m³ of helium gas storage, purification and oil removal systems, an 18-meter cryogenic refrigeration coldbox with control valves, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and turbomachinery, plus a distributed control system.
In this role, you will support plant operations through the commissioning phase, develop process safety and controls documentation, and finalize process design documentation. You'll work closely with the operations team to ensure smooth handoff and validate system performance against SPARC requirements. Following successful commissioning and transition to Operations, you'll transition to support development of future process system projects, including the ARC plant.
Key responsibilities include: collaborating with cross-functional teams on process design and optimization, developing and documenting process safety procedures and control strategies, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues during commissioning, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and performance standards.
