Salary: USD 128,000 - 162,000 / annual

Sila Nanotechnologies is a next-generation battery materials company focused on powering the world's transition to clean energy. The company engineers and manufactures breakthrough battery materials that significantly increase energy density while reducing size and weight, enabling smaller, more powerful batteries for consumer devices and electric vehicles. As a Senior Process Controls Engineer, you will execute industrial process controls and instrumentation designs for production-scale synthesis equipment. Working collaboratively across teams, you will design robust, modular, and well-documented control systems that are safe, reliable, and compliant with industry standards. Key responsibilities include: - Developing and implementing control system strategies for production equipment, ensuring designs are properly documented in Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) - Creating comprehensive design documentation including instrument indexes, I/O lists, alarm lists, cause-and-effect matrices, and SIL/IPL verification forms - Participating in HAZOP reviews and safety assessments to ensure safe process design - Sourcing and selecting instrumentation and engaging with external vendors on controls designs - Designing intuitive human-machine interfaces (HMIs) for real-time monitoring and control - Assisting with hardware and code implementation, commissioning, and startup - Gathering end-user feedback and implementing improvements while sharing best practices Required qualifications include 5+ years of industry experience with strong proficiency in control system design principles (PID, cascade, advanced techniques), instrumentation principles and devices, and hands-on PLC programming in Structured Text and IEC 61131-3 languages. You must have experience with the full design lifecycle of process control systems, regulatory compliance (NFPA, UL508A, IEC 61151), and industrial communication protocols (Profinet, Modbus). A B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is preferred. The role involves working in a manufacturing environment with up to 20% travel, requiring use of personal protective equipment and ability to move between buildings and work both at computers and in the facility.
