Aiven is hiring a Senior Process Automation Engineer to build and own an internal automation platform, starting with Finance. The role sits within the Data Platform & Enterprise IT team, which makes the company observable through data and owns critical systems.
Your mission is to transform how Aiven runs its business processes. Today, many workflows are manual, undocumented, or scattered across systems—approvals living in three places, numbers copied by hand between platforms like NetSuite, Zip, Atlar, and Rydoo. You'll architect and build a shared automation platform that turns these broken processes into production-grade, observable, auditable workflows.
You'll start in Finance, where the stakes are highest and the payoff is clearest. Within six months, you should have at least one major Finance workflow (procure-to-pay, month-end close, bank reconciliation) running on your platform instead of through spreadsheets and manual handoffs. The platform will use n8n as its foundation today, but you own its evolution. You'll design where AI agents genuinely add value (human-in-the-loop and autonomous workflows) versus where deterministic automation is better. You'll build reusable primitives so the second workflow is a paved road, not a six-month project.
This is a senior individual-contributor role for someone who treats automation as infrastructure. You'll partner with the engineers who own underlying systems (NetSuite, billing, payments) while you orchestrate flows across them. The team has strong relationships across Aiven and more demand than it can serve, so what you ship gets adopted.
You must be a builder with high agency—someone who sees a broken process and fixes it without waiting for permission. You're a systems thinker who can break processes into parts, diagram them, and understand the whole. You can discover how work really happens by sitting with people doing the job, distinguishing real process from official procedure, mapping normal paths and exceptions. You're a fast learner across domains, comfortable going from knowing nothing about procurement to automating it. You've built and run real automation in production (n8n, Temporal, Airflow, or similar).
