The Legal team at Abridge operates across multiple disciplines and is expanding. This Senior Privacy Counsel role focuses on promoting a culture of privacy and security across the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Advising teams on privacy laws related to clinical data, AI, machine learning, product development, and responsible use of sensitive information
- Scaling practical, cross-functional privacy programs aligned with HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, biometric privacy laws, and emerging state privacy legislation
- Embedding privacy into product development by partnering with Product, Design, Engineering, Data Science/Analytics, Security, and Marketing from concept through launch
- Supporting data sharing and ecosystem questions, including governance and contractual expectations in partnership with commercial counsel
- Monitoring evolving privacy, cybersecurity, healthcare, and AI regulations and translating developments into clear recommendations and action plans
- Maintaining and updating privacy and security policies and notices
- Supporting negotiation of commercial terms, including Business Associate Agreements (BAAs)
- Building scalable tools—templates, playbooks, intake paths, and training—to help teams move faster with confidence
- Establishing strong working relationships with key stakeholders and driving alignment across competing priorities
- Contributing to communication of the Privacy Team's mission and vision to internal partners
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in either the SF or NYC office.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of legal experience at a technology company or technology-focused law firm
- Experience leading, developing, advising, and evaluating programs that ensure products comply with laws, regulations, and external commitments
- Practical, risk-based approach with ability to balance legal, regulatory, business, and customer considerations
- Strong business judgment and ability to work independently in an environment valuing autonomy, accountability, and trust
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; ability to translate complex legal requirements into clear, actionable guidance for technical and nontechnical audiences
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple high-priority matters in a dynamic, fast-moving environment
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
