Docker seeks a Senior Principal Engineer to serve as the technical visionary and architect for Central Operations and Systems—the foundational platform powering Docker's internal infrastructure, developer AI/SDLC tooling, corporate systems, and reliability. This is a high-impact individual contributor role responsible for defining and driving technical strategy that enables Docker's transformation to an AI-first company and positions Docker as "Customer 0" of its own platform.
You will establish multi-year technical vision spanning company systems architecture, employee experience, and end-to-end infrastructure. Key responsibilities include: defining strategic plans for internal AI, developer tools, infrastructure, and corporate systems; making critical architectural decisions affecting Docker's entire internal systems portfolio; leading cross-company technical initiatives; architecting the Docker SDLC "Golden Path"; driving convergence of fragmented systems into shared platform capabilities; and establishing technical contracts between platform and product teams.
On infrastructure and developer experience, you'll define the platform vision to remove infrastructure as a bottleneck, architect standardized deployment patterns encoding security and reliability best practices, design infrastructure supporting AI and agent initiatives, establish observability standards with distributed tracing and metrics, and drive cost optimization.
You'll mentor Staff and Principal engineers, represent Docker's platform architecture externally through technical content and speaking, participate in executive-level strategy discussions, and drive build-vs-buy decisions for critical components. The role requires deep technical expertise across multiple domains—AI, platform infrastructure, developer SDLC, corporate systems, and Docker products—with the ability to manage breadth while maintaining technical excellence. You may participate in on-call rotations for critical support.
