Panthalassa is a renewable energy and ocean technology company developing devices that generate energy in harsh ocean conditions without human maintenance. The company is expanding manufacturing, testing, and compute operations across multiple sites, requiring substantially increased electrical capacity.
As Senior Power Infrastructure Engineer, you will lead all work to bring sufficient power to each site. You will assess electrical capacity at existing and prospective facilities, develop phased load forecasts collaborating with compute, manufacturing, testing, and operations teams, and evaluate upgrade paths ranging from service improvements to existing buildings to planning for approximately 10 MW at new sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assessing electrical capacity of existing and prospective sites, including current service, historical demand, available headroom, and expansion constraints
- Building phased site-level load forecasts with internal teams
- Developing practical options for additional power, comparing capacity, cost, lead time, operational impacts, and future growth support, including interim or on-site power solutions
- Leading technical coordination with electric utilities on service requests, studies, upgrade plans, agreements, schedules, and energization
- Defining scope and requirements for major service upgrades and working with engineers of record, landlords, contractors, and internal teams through design and delivery
- Reviewing utility proposals, electrical studies, designs, and cost estimates to identify gaps before they affect decisions
- Tracking power availability, utility commitments, upgrade dependencies, and key decisions across all sites
- Communicating power options and risks clearly to enable timely leadership decisions on sites, equipment, and capital investments
You will thrive in a creative, scrappy, collaborative environment where the best ideas regularly shape company direction. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment about cost/schedule/technical risk, and the ability to explain electrical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
Travel to vendors and test sites is required. You may occasionally work longer hours and weekends to support critical needs, though the company emphasizes autonomy and work-life balance with flexible PTO and flexible working hours.
REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Degree in electrical engineering or related field, or equivalent experience delivering substantial commercial or industrial power infrastructure
- Experience planning or delivering utility service connections and electrical capacity upgrades for commercial, industrial, or similarly demanding facilities
- Working knowledge of electrical loads, utility service, transformers, switchgear, metering, and utility-to-building distribution interfaces
- Ability to develop and evaluate load forecasts when equipment plans, operating profiles, and future uses are still changing
- Experience working directly with utilities and coordinating external engineers, contractors, property owners, and internal stakeholders
- Ability to distinguish between a service's rated capacity, currently available power from utility, and practically usable site capacity
- Sound judgment about cost, schedule, and technical risk with ability to explain tradeoffs to non-electrical audiences
Desired:
- Experience with projects involving approximately 1–10 MW of site demand or comparable electrical upgrades
- Experience supporting site selection or due diligence for a portfolio of properties
- Experience with power-intensive manufacturing, testing, compute, or industrial operations
- Experience taking a utility upgrade from initial capacity inquiry through construction and energization
- Professional Engineer licensure
