Grafana Labs is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to join the newly formed Metal squad within the Foundations group. This team is responsible for building and provisioning infrastructure resources—storage, networking, and Kubernetes clusters—on physical hardware to support Grafana Cloud's massive scale (millions of metrics, logs, and traces per second).
You will own the full lifecycle of infrastructure code, from design through operations. Key responsibilities include managing bare-metal environments and Kubernetes control planes, designing and maintaining cluster networking (load balancing, NAT, DNS, CNIs, cross-cluster communication, routing protocols), managing scheduling and autoscaling, and maintaining Crossplane compositions and Terraform modules for infrastructure-as-code. You'll work closely with Grafana Cloud application teams to understand their needs and ensure the platform evolves to meet them.
The role requires hands-on experience with distributed systems, datacenter operations, and on-call participation. You should be comfortable working holistically across the stack—from low-level infrastructure details to high-level architecture decisions. The team primarily uses Go, Python, and Shell.
