Sydecar is transforming private markets by making them more accessible, transparent, and liquid through a platform that revolutionizes how investment vehicles are created and executed. The Platform Team owns shared foundations across engineering—developer productivity, core services, infrastructure, release automation, and security—enabling all product teams to ship safer, faster, and at scale.
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will build systems and tooling that raise the floor for every engineer at Sydecar. You'll join a collaborative, high-trust team that values ownership, thoughtful execution, and sustainable pace. Your work on faster pipelines, reliable infrastructure, safer releases, and stronger security will be felt across the entire engineering organization. This role suits engineers energized by force-multiplying others and treating internal teams as customers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build and improve the internal developer platform—CI/CD pipelines, build/deploy automation, and local and preview environments—creating a "golden path" for safe, fast shipping.
- Design, operate, and scale core shared services and cloud infrastructure as code (Terraform) with strong reliability, observability, and cost efficiency.
- Advance release and test automation to make production shipping routine and low-risk, with safe rollout patterns and easy rollbacks.
- Strengthen the platform's security posture and help build a distributed security practice across engineering.
- Partner with product teams as an enabler—set standards and interfaces, co-build where teams share interests or have timely dependencies—while keeping the platform focused on general-purpose foundations.
- Lead projects from concept through deployment, balancing speed with scalability.
- Mentor engineers, participate in architecture reviews, and help shape the platform roadmap.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, and operations.
The tech stack includes TypeScript and React (frontend), TypeScript/NestJS/Prisma (backend), PostgreSQL (database), Jest/React Testing Library/Playwright (testing), Terraform (infrastructure-as-code), and Figma (design).
The role is hybrid based in San Francisco with two to three days per week in-office attendance.
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 5 years of software or platform engineering experience in modern languages (TypeScript/Node.js a plus).
- Depth in one or more platform areas: CI/CD and developer tooling; cloud infrastructure and reliability (infrastructure-as-code, observability, SLOs, on-call); release engineering and test automation; or application/infrastructure security.
- A track record of measurably improving developer velocity, system reliability, or release safety at scale.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging agentic/AI-assisted software development workflows.
- Strong problem-solver for edge cases and system scaling, with an ownership mentality and bias toward paved roads over gates.
- Excellent collaborator and communicator with an enablement mindset—treating internal teams as customers and helping others move faster.
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fintech experience (payments, compliance, or regulated environments).
- Experience building internal developer platforms or developer-experience tooling.
- Terraform and GCP familiarity; observability tooling (logging, metrics, tracing).
- Security experience—OWASP-style practices, secrets management, dependency/vulnerability scanning, or AppSec.
- Exposure to NestJS, Prisma, PostgreSQL, and Playwright/React Testing Library.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
