Shield AI is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate scalable platform infrastructure supporting defense and autonomous systems. You will own platform initiatives end-to-end—from technical design through production operations—developing reusable infrastructure-as-code modules, automation frameworks, and self-service capabilities for engineering teams.
Key responsibilities include designing and operating production infrastructure across Azure, AWS, and private cloud environments; building and maintaining container and Kubernetes platform capabilities with deployment automation, configuration management, observability, and lifecycle management; developing platform tooling using Terraform, Ansible, Python, and Go; and establishing standardized paved paths that simplify infrastructure provisioning and application deployment.
You will support capacity planning, performance tuning, vulnerability remediation, and disaster recovery; build and improve CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, and alerting; troubleshoot complex platform and infrastructure issues; and provide technical guidance to other engineers on platform architecture and standards. The role includes participation in on-call rotations and scheduled after-hours maintenance.
Required: 7+ years in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE; production experience with Azure, AWS, or comparable public cloud; strong infrastructure-as-code skills (Terraform, Ansible); hands-on Kubernetes and containerization experience; proficiency in Python, Go, or similar languages; CI/CD pipeline development; Linux systems administration; cloud and enterprise networking knowledge; monitoring and observability implementation; platform security and IAM understanding; ability to independently lead complex technical initiatives; and a bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
Preferred: experience with government, regulated, or air-gapped cloud environments; both Azure and AWS (including GovCloud); GitOps, Helm, policy-as-code, secrets management, or internal developer portals; private cloud platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM); SLI/SLO definition and incident response; hybrid-cloud architectures; aerospace or defense industry background; and relevant certifications.
