NALA is a fintech company building payments infrastructure for the next billion users. Since 2022, the company has grown 120x, expanded from 9 to 150+ employees, raised $50M+ from top-tier investors, and was named to the Forbes Fintech 50 in 2025 and 2026. NALA operates two core products: a consumer app enabling cross-border payments from the UK, US, and EU to Africa and Asia, and Rafiki, a B2B payments infrastructure platform. The team includes alumni from Wise, Stripe, Monzo, Revolut, and CashApp.
As Senior Platform Engineer, you will own NALA's cloud foundation end-to-end and architect the shared platform layer that unlocks velocity across both B2B and B2C products. You will be the infrastructure expert who eliminates single points of failure, builds the connective tissue between Rafiki and NALA, and sets technical direction for how the engineering organization approaches systems thinking.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and improving cloud infrastructure powering NALA and Rafiki, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security
- Improving developer experience through automation, self-serve tooling, and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Owning observability, incident response, and reliability practices to minimize downtime and improve system performance
- Partnering with product and engineering teams to support new services, migrations, and platform improvements
- Strengthening security posture through best practices in networking, access controls, secrets management, and production environments
- Continuously improving CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows for safe, fast, reliable releases
Success metrics at 3 months include: full AWS estate mapped and documented with gaps identified, CI/CD and observability gaps surfaced and prioritized, intake process running for infrastructure requests, security baseline assessment complete, and at least one production incident debugged with improved response process. At 6 months: cloud spend understood and optimized, key services re-architected for better performance and reliability, measurable improvement in deployment velocity, faster and more standardized incident response, and engineering teams feeling less blocked by infrastructure.
The interview process includes a 30-minute talent team conversation, a 90-minute practical assessment (Terraform code review and architectural problem-solving), and a 45-minute bar raiser interview with the Head of Engineering.
Benefits include 35 days off annually, birthday leave, enhanced parental leave (16 weeks primary, 4 weeks secondary), global WeWork access, $1000 annual learning budget, private medical insurance, 3x salary life insurance, enhanced pension scheme, hybrid working (4 days/week in Canary Wharf office), themed snacks, monthly socials, and free barista coffee.
Requirements:
- Production AWS experience at scale with hands-on Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
- Strong experience managing containerized workloads using ECS and Docker in production
- Strong experience operating and scaling infrastructure components such as Kafka, Redis, and managed relational databases like RDS
- Strong understanding of networking, security, observability, and distributed systems fundamentals
- Experience improving CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation in fast-moving engineering teams
- Comfortable debugging production issues and participating in incident response in high-availability environments
- Clear communication skills and ability to work closely with software engineers across multiple teams
- Ownership mindset: excited about owning something end-to-end from problem identification to reliable operation; treating infrastructure as a core discipline, not a stepping stone
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in fintech, payments, or other regulated environments
- Experience building internal developer platforms or self-serve infrastructure tooling
- Experience supporting SOC2, ISO27001, or similar compliance initiatives
- SRE or platform engineering background at scale (100+ engineers, 1000+ services)
- Experience designing connective layers or shared infrastructure in multi-product organizations
