Openlight is seeking a Senior PIC Architect to lead the design, implementation, and delivery of photonics integrated circuits (PICs) with optical gain and lasers on their proprietary heterogeneous silicon-III/V photonic platform. The role spans applications including data center communications, LiDAR, optical computing, and sensing. You will drive the full lifecycle of PIC development: defining requirements, performing feasibility studies, designing and simulating circuits using commercial and custom tools, coordinating with packaging and layout teams, and managing test strategies. You'll work cross-functionally with customers, business development, component design, layout, test, and reliability engineers to deliver products that meet performance specifications and bring new offerings to market. Key responsibilities include mapping customer product requirements onto Openlight's platform, presenting technical results to stakeholders, defining test requirements and analyzing test data, and identifying new components for the PDK roadmap. You'll collaborate with component designers to ensure specifications are met and work across organizational boundaries to drive complex programs to completion. The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Material Science, Applied Physics, or related discipline, with 10+ years of combined professional and PhD experience. You should have deep expertise in photonic integrated circuits (lasers, modulators, amplifiers, detectors, passives, optical coupling), opto-electronic device requirements for datacom and LiDAR applications, and strong problem-solving and communication skills. Hands-on experience with high-speed optical testing and packaging is desirable. Openlight operates on a hybrid schedule with three days per week in office, with flexibility to choose your in-office days. The company is growing rapidly as AI and cloud infrastructure drive demand for faster, more energy-efficient optical connectivity.
