The company recently achieved 99.99% two-qubit gate fidelity, setting a world record in quantum computing performance. IonQ's quantum computers are helping customers including Amazon Web Services and AstraZeneca achieve 20x performance improvements in drug discovery, materials science, financial modeling, logistics, cybersecurity, and defense.
This Senior Physicist role focuses on the development and commercialization of IonQ's silicon vacancy (SiV) quantum memory platform. You will be part of a cross-functional team responsible for advancing quantum technologies with applications across quantum computing, networking, and sensing.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with IonQ's industry, government, and academic partners, as well as internal teams, to implement new use-cases and applications using the SiV quantum memory platform
- Evaluating and testing new hardware (e.g., pair sources, sensors) for compatibility with SiV memory nodes to add new capabilities to the network or enable new distributed applications
- Coordinating with internal teams and external vendors to develop or improve memory system subcomponents and software as needed
- Developing and maturing key electrical and optical subsystems for defect-center based quantum memory nodes
- Working with IonQ customers and collaborators to implement and test new applications and use-cases for quantum networks and memories
The role is based in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with up to 10% travel (domestic or international). This is an onsite position for someone with deep expertise in quantum optics, quantum information science, and experimental physics who can contribute to IonQ's mission to unlock a new era of quantum computing.
