Alumni Ventures is a venture capital platform with $1.4B+ in assets raised and investments in 1,600+ companies. The company operates a network of 850,000+ members and 40+ dedicated investors, connecting accredited individuals to high-quality venture deals through alumni-driven communities and diversified co-investment strategies. With offices across Boston, New York, Chicago, Menlo Park, Manchester NH, London, and Tokyo, Alumni Ventures maintains a 5-day-a-week in-office culture emphasizing collaboration and mentorship.
The Senior Partner role is critical to Alumni Ventures' growth, focusing on converting prospective investors into first-time AV investors and establishing foundations for long-term relationships. Reporting to the EVP of Nurture Marketing within the Investor Conversion Pillar, you will own inbound and warm prospect conversations from qualification through close.
This is a solution-selling role requiring you to quickly understand each prospect's motivations—whether accessing individual deals, building diversified venture exposure, or other goals—and adapt your approach accordingly. You'll match prospects to appropriate AV offerings including syndicate deals, Alumni Funds, Focused Funds, or the Foundation Fund. Your primary focus is zero-to-one conversion: helping net-new prospects make their first AV investment while establishing trust and understanding that the Relationship Management team will carry forward into long-term annual-allocation relationships.
Key responsibilities include owning prospect calls end-to-end from qualification through close; prioritizing zero-to-one conversion while building foundations for relationship management; using active listening and discovery to understand investor needs and connect them to appropriate offerings; listening for buying signals and objections to help prospects make informed decisions; communicating AV's "see the deal, then decide" approach; maintaining disciplined follow-through with accurate HubSpot documentation and lead advancement; partnering with Marketing and Nurture teams to provide feedback on lead quality and messaging; contributing to development of coaching and call-quality standards; and leveraging AI tools for prospect research, call preparation, and personalized follow-up.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 7+ years of experience in a closing sales role, ideally in financial services, investment products, or other high-consideration, relationship-driven sales
- Strong verbal communication skills with ability to build trust, sustain engagement, and guide nuanced conversations over the phone
- Diagnostic listening skills; ability to identify prospect needs and match approach to different motivations, investment experience levels, and buying signals
- Comfort adapting in real time when conversations take unexpected directions rather than relying on prescribed scripts
- Ability to learn and speak credibly about venture capital, fund structures, and portfolio construction, or demonstrated ability to quickly develop fluency in complex products
- Capacity to maintain high volume of prospect conversations without sacrificing call quality, documentation accuracy, or follow-through
- Comfort receiving specific coaching based on call recordings and performance data and implementing feedback
- Experience using HubSpot or comparable CRM for pipeline management, call documentation, and follow-up
