Verse is building an energy intelligence platform for the AI economy, helping large energy consumers achieve faster, cheaper, and cleaner power through real-time control of energy assets and complete portfolio visibility. The company is backed by Bessemer Venture Partners, GV, Coatue, and NVIDIA, and was founded by pioneers in grid-scale batteries, energy markets, and enterprise software.
As a Senior Optimization Engineer on the Data Science Team, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of optimization models powering the platform across electricity markets, renewable energy, and battery energy storage systems. You'll develop production-grade optimization engines solving complex operational and planning problems at scale, requiring deep expertise in mathematical optimization, strong Python software engineering skills, and experience integrating optimization models with production systems.
Key responsibilities include leading end-to-end optimization engineering from mathematical formulation through production deployment; designing and implementing linear, mixed-integer, and quadratic optimization models; developing models for electricity markets, battery storage, renewable assets, and distributed energy resources; writing clean, well-tested Python code following modern software engineering practices; partnering with product, engineering, data science, and commercial teams; and mentoring junior engineers while establishing best practices for the optimization platform.
You'll need 5+ years developing mathematical optimization models in production environments, demonstrated experience independently leading complex optimization projects, professional Python development experience, experience deploying optimization models to scalable production systems, and required professional experience in the energy industry. A Master's degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related quantitative field is preferred (Bachelor's with significant relevant experience considered). Battery energy storage optimization experience is strongly preferred, as is knowledge of ISO/RTO markets (CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, etc.).
