Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Network Software Engineer II to join the Space Systems team at their Long Beach headquarters. This role focuses on developing and managing software for space-to-space communications, space-to-ground communications, payload software, and data security systems across a constellation of spacecraft.
You will manage the software development and integration of routers, radios, and laser communication devices on spacecraft. Key responsibilities include managing suppliers and subcontractors for system development and testing, interfacing with internal teams and external partners to maintain product development plans and meet milestones, and designing simulation and test approaches for constellation networking. You'll define KPIs for contractors, establish development cadences for feature delivery, develop staffing plans with leadership, plan major integration points between teams, and drive best practices for feedback collection and continuous improvement.
Additionally, you'll develop and maintain software development standards and procedures to ensure all deliverables meet the highest quality standards and customer requirements. This role reports to the Head of Flight Software and requires managing complex technical programs with government and defense partners.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar technical discipline, with 8+ years of relevant industry experience. You must have comprehensive knowledge of network software, understanding of the software development lifecycle, experience with Jira, and familiarity with systems engineering methods including requirements management and interface management. An active Secret security clearance with eligibility to obtain TS/SCI is required, along with U.S. citizenship.
Desirable qualifications include a Master's degree in aerospace or related field, active TS/SCI clearance, experience with SDA NEBULA architectures, cybersecurity controls, encryption, team leadership using agile methodologies, project management certifications (PMP, APMP), and proactive problem-solving abilities.
