Halter is a mission-driven agtech company transforming sustainable grazing practices using IoT-enabled collars and wireless networks. The company is backed by tier-1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, and DCVC, and operates a network moving half a billion messages daily between collars and the Halter platform.
The Network team owns the wireless backbone connecting every collar to the platform, managing LoRa-based communication protocols, cellular backhaul, tower infrastructure, and the edge-to-cloud pipeline that delivers real-time telemetry to farmers and ranchers.
As Senior Network Engineer, you will take ownership of the performance, reliability, and scalability of Halter's collar and tower network. You'll operate at the intersection of wireless communication protocols, tower infrastructure, and real-time data flow—diagnosing field issues, designing preventative architecture, and setting technical direction as Halter scales across new regions and terrain.
Key responsibilities include: optimizing collar and tower network performance and reliability; designing and evolving network architecture with focus on LoRa, tower infrastructure, and edge-to-cloud data flow; driving continuous improvement through monitoring and field feedback; leading tower deployment strategy including site selection and provisioning automation; partnering with firmware, backend, and product teams on end-to-end data flow; mentoring fellow engineers in wireless networking and high-availability systems; implementing observability and monitoring tooling; participating in 24/7 on-call rotation; and staying current with evolving wireless technologies and rural connectivity solutions.
You'll bring deep experience designing and operating large-scale wireless networks (ideally LPWAN/LoRa, cellular, or similar low-power long-range protocols); a proven track record owning network architecture end-to-end in production at scale; comfort across the full stack (RF/antenna behavior, tower hardware, edge devices, cloud systems); expertise in observability and monitoring for distributed/IoT systems; and a track record growing and mentoring other engineers.
