ServiceNow's Security and Risk Engineering organization is building a zero-to-one incubation project: a novel exploitability engine that ranks security work by real-world attack feasibility rather than raw severity. This Senior ML Engineer role focuses on designing and shipping production ML components that transform raw security signals into ranked, actionable attack paths.
You will own well-scoped components of the exploitability engine, such as evidence ingestion and connectors, entity resolution, graph construction, or probability scoring. Your responsibilities include building production-quality ML systems with strong engineering fundamentals, ensuring correctness and reliability through comprehensive testing, evaluation, observability, and metrics. You'll translate ambiguous security requirements into working code, contribute to design and code reviews, and help raise the quality bar across the team.
Key activities include designing and operating production ML components, prototyping rapidly to evaluate new AI capabilities against real cybersecurity problems, partnering with product, security R&D, and SecOps teams to understand underlying problems, and applying AI safety, security, and guardrail practices to your work.
Required qualifications: 3+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated ability to design and deliver production software systems. You must have hands-on experience building ML or LLM-powered applications (RAG, embeddings, agents, probabilistic scoring), taking prototypes to reliable production solutions, and working knowledge of distributed systems, APIs, cloud-native development, and data/graph systems. Strong programming in Python and/or Java, Go, or TypeScript is essential. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience) is required.
Desirable experience includes cybersecurity or security-product background, AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf), and AI evaluation, safety, or guardrails work.
