REGENT is building Seagliders—wing-in-ground-effect craft that revolutionize regional coastal transportation by traveling just above water at 180 mph with 180-mile range on current battery technology. The company is scaling from prototype to full production and seeking a Senior Mission Software Engineer to own the vehicle-level software architecture that integrates guidance, navigation, control, communications, and health monitoring across multiple avionics units.
In this role, you will build the vehicle software framework that ties together perception, controls, and UI subsystems through well-defined interfaces and data flows. You'll integrate software on real Seagliders during hardware bring-up, sensor driver development, and test campaigns spanning prototype and production programs. You'll architect for reliability through telemetry, logging, fault management, fail-safe behavior, test harnesses, and a robust software update process with rollback capability.
You'll support test operations by owning the software integration schedule for upcoming sea trials and debugging issues in the field under time pressure. You'll partner closely with the autonomy team to define and build the vehicle-side interface for the autonomy stack. As a senior engineer, you'll mentor earlier-career engineers and uphold coding standards and review practices across the team.
Required experience includes software development for vehicles or robots, ideally in aerospace (avionics, UAV, eVTOL) or automotive (ADAS, autonomous vehicles). You need strong C++ skills for complex systems with deep understanding of memory management, multi-threading, and performance in embedded environments. Real-time experience (RTOS or real-time frameworks) and hands-on integration of software on actual vehicles is essential. You should have systems programming depth in networking (UDP/TCP, CAN), threading, IPC, and long-duration robustness. Familiarity with safety-critical principles (fail-safe states, watchdogs, redundancy) and design assurance obligations (DO-178C or comparable) is highly valued.
Bonus skills include avionics protocols (ARINC 429, CAN), implemented Kalman filters or control loops, embedded CI/DevOps, GPU and high-rate data processing, and prior startup experience. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who works naturally across software, controls, perception, systems, and hardware disciplines. You're a creative problem solver energized by hard problems without obvious answers, willing to dig into software, logs, interfaces, hardware, and test data to understand root causes. You're adaptable and agile in a fast-moving startup where priorities and designs evolve quickly, balancing speed with technical rigor. You have an ownership mindset, taking responsibility for what your software enables on the vehicle and willing to get hands-on with hardware when needed. You're broadly curious, motivated by solving problems across the full stack, and willing to go wherever the product needs you most.
