GitLab is seeking a Senior Migration Engineer to lead customer migrations from self-managed GitLab to GitLab Dedicated. You will partner with enterprise customers to plan and execute migrations using GitLab Geo for data replication, moving them to fully managed, isolated GitLab environments with minimal disruption.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver end-to-end customer migrations from assessment through planning, replication, cutover, and post-migration validation
- Use GitLab Geo to replicate customer data, debug synchronization issues, and maintain migration timelines
- Design customer network connectivity within GitLab Dedicated constraints (VPCs, private connectivity, DNS, firewalls)
- Apply infrastructure-as-code and configuration-as-code practices using Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes to validate environments
- Advise customers on migration sequencing, cutover windows, integration requirements, and risk mitigation
- Improve migration tooling, scripts, and runbooks to enhance reliability and efficiency
- Collaborate with Professional Services, Product, and Engineering teams to resolve blockers and share field feedback
- Manage multiple concurrent customer engagements while balancing outcomes and priorities
Required experience:
- Proven track record delivering customer-facing migration, installation, or technical advisory engagements
- Hands-on experience with GitLab deployment and configuration; solid Git and source control knowledge
- Infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Puppet, or Chef)
- Production Kubernetes experience including deployments, rollouts, and troubleshooting
- Major cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure) with network design and connectivity knowledge
- Ability to read and modify infrastructure tooling; familiarity with Go, Python, or Ruby
- Strong independent project leadership, clear written and spoken English communication, and ability to build consensus in remote, asynchronous environments

GitLab Geo and replication experience is beneficial but can be developed in the role. The role is part of GitLab's Dedicated Infrastructure organization, working across Sales, Professional Services, and Product teams.
