Relativity Space is building rockets to serve today's needs and tomorrow's breakthroughs. The Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting growing demand for launch capacity. The Avionics team is responsible for the full lifecycle of Terran R's nervous system—designing, building, testing, installing, and operating the hardware that connects and controls every major electrical system on the vehicle and ground.
In this role, you will own mechanical and structural design, packaging, analysis, test, and validation of secondary structure within the Terran R Avionics system. Secondary structure includes trays, brackets, dynamic isolation, thermal management, and environmental protection components. You will provide technical direction across the secondary structure portfolio by setting design standards, reviewing and approving analysis and drawings, and making architecture-level trade decisions that balance mission requirements, producibility, schedule, and cost.
You will drive cross-functional integration with Avionics, Fluids, Dynamics, Thermal, Structures, and Vehicle Integration teams, serving as the primary point of accountability for secondary structure delivery and interfaces. You will perform modal, structural, and thermal analysis of hardware to static, dynamic, and thermal environments, ensuring analysis rigor and design margins are appropriate for flight.
This is an opportunity to help shape Terran R's fundamental avionics architecture with high degree of ownership on components that will fly. You'll collaborate across teams, solve problems that haven't been solved before, and see your work come to life in record time.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in full-cycle mechanical or structural design engineering roles, including experience taking hardware from concept through flight or production
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- Experience with 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software
- Strong background in structural and thermal analysis, including finite element analysis methods
- Demonstrated project ownership and accountability on complex, multi-disciplinary technical projects with a track record of delivering under schedule pressure
