Isar Aerospace is seeking a Senior Mechanical Ground Systems Engineer to join the Ground Systems department and drive the development of critical launch infrastructure. You will take ownership of mechanical subsystems including the Launch Table, Transporter/Erector, Hold-Down-Release Mechanism, and testing facility equipment. Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Ground Systems, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of ground support equipment design—from requirements management and CAD/FEA modeling through manufacturing drawings, procurement, and commissioning support. Key responsibilities include: owning mechanical subsystems within larger projects; proactively managing requirements and engineering change requests across stakeholder teams; mentoring junior and mid-level engineers on mechanical and structural design; designing and iterating subsystems using CAD tools and numerical simulations; creating manufacturing and assembly documentation with BOMs; performing architectural trade-offs; selecting and procuring hardware; serving as the technical point of contact for external partners; writing technical documentation and conducting design reviews and risk assessments; evaluating compliance with environmental and safety regulations; planning and supporting commissioning activities; and traveling to construction and test sites for on-site coordination. You bring 7+ years of professional experience in mechanical or aerospace engineering with demonstrated expertise in system-level mechanical architecture for complex ground support and launch infrastructure. You are proficient in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or equivalent) with strong GD&T knowledge. Your background spans structures, mechanisms, pressure systems, fluid interfaces, and dynamic environments. You understand manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, and operational constraints deeply. You are an analytical problem-solver who translates theory into practical engineering solutions. You adapt quickly to changing priorities, work efficiently in teams, communicate effectively under pressure, and mentor junior engineers as a technical expert and role model. Fluent English is required. Bonus qualifications include fluent German, knowledge of rocket propulsion technology and aerospace test facility/launch pad design, mechanical process plant engineering experience, structural/thermal/vibration analysis in Ansys or NASTRAN, hydraulic system design experience, and experience with systems designed for outdoor or offshore environments.
