Relativity Space is developing Terran R, a 3D-printed rocket designed to deliver payloads to orbit. The Structures and Mechanisms team owns the full design, build, and test lifecycle of Terran R's integrated structures and flight mechanisms.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer on the Structures team, you will lead the conceptualization, design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing of primary and secondary structures including thrust structures, propellant tanks, interstages, and fairings. You will work across the full design cycle, from initial concept through flight hardware validation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Innovative conceptualization of structural load paths and complex structure design with adjacent system packaging
- Review of static and dynamic load inputs, material properties, test data, and structural requirements
- Analysis and sizing of flight structures using tools like NX/TeamCenter, Nastran, and ANSYS
- Development and support of hardware test campaigns, including integration, operation, and evaluation
- Support for manufacturing process development to optimize for speed and manufacturability
- Hands-on ownership of hardware components from design through factory floor implementation
You will work on multiple structural subsystems rather than a single component, with direct decision-making authority over flight hardware. The role emphasizes creative problem-solving to reduce mass, parts, processes, and tooling. You'll collaborate across propulsion, manufacturing, software, and avionics teams in a fast-paced environment where your work directly impacts the vehicle.
This is an individual contributor role requiring self-motivation, adaptability, and proven ability to lead projects to completion. Significant mechanical or structural design experience and a track record of effective collaborative project delivery are essential.
