True Anomaly is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of next-generation spacecraft for space security and sustainability. You will own the mechanical design of flight systems across LEO/GEO satellites, small sat platforms, and on-orbit servicing vehicles, translating mission requirements into flight-ready hardware.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical structures, mechanisms, and assemblies for spacecraft, ensuring performance, mass, and reliability across the full hardware lifecycle.
- Own end-to-end development from concept and trade studies through prototyping, qualification, and flight hardware delivery.
- Design primary and secondary structures for launch load environments (sine burst, random vibration, shock) in compliance with launch vehicle ICD requirements.
- Lead design of spacecraft mechanisms including hinges, hold-down/release mechanisms, solar array drives, antenna pointing systems, and precision moving assemblies.
- Package and integrate electronics and avionics hardware within spacecraft structures, managing thermal interfaces, EMI shielding, harness routing, and accessibility.
- Support propulsion system integration including structural mounting, propellant line routing, and thruster bracket design.
- Develop and manage detailed 3D CAD models and drawings using NX (Siemens) and/or SolidWorks, maintaining configuration integrity.
- Define and enforce GD&T standards on drawings and review supplier/team deliverables for compliance.
- Lead spacecraft design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR) and drive resolution of technical risks and interface trades.
- Serve as key technical interface with structures, thermal, avionics, mechanisms, and propulsion teams.
- Develop and execute test plans for structural and mechanisms qualification and acceptance testing.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical excellence and best practices.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; 6-14 years of professional experience in mechanical design with direct spacecraft/satellite hardware development; demonstrated experience designing structures for launch load environments; hands-on spacecraft mechanisms design experience; electronics/avionics packaging experience; familiarity with propulsion system mechanical integration; strong proficiency in 3D CAD (NX/SolidWorks).
