Salary: USD 125,000 - 150,000 / annual
BETA Technologies is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineering team. This role is central to revolutionizing electric aviation by leading the development of new manufacturing processes from initial conceptualization through low-rate initial production.
You will become intimately familiar with materials and manufacturing processes used in aircraft fabrication and assembly, generating concepts for new materials and processes. Key responsibilities include:
• Lead mechanical design for new development projects from conception through technology readiness level 7
• Lead fabrication of proof-of-concept prototypes and associated test equipment/fixtures to enable rapid iterative test campaigns
• Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to conceptualize new materials and processes aimed at cost reduction, performance improvement, and manufacturing scalability
• Work with supply chain and manufacturing teams to define make-versus-buy and ownership transfer strategies
• Collaborate with systems and certification teams to ensure certifiability of new technologies
• Design or select manufacturing process equipment in coordination with design, manufacturing, and production teams
• Iteratively design, build, and test prototypes in parallel with product design
• Support manufacturing and production teams after technology transition
You will work cross-functionally with a broad range of team members to deliver technologies enabling BETA to achieve profitable full-rate production. The ideal candidate has deep experience in one or more advanced manufacturing technologies including filament winding, automated fiber placement, resin transfer molding, compression molding, injection molding, resin casting, metal additive manufacturing, forging, metal casting, stamping, welding, conventional spray coating, thermal spray coating, and electroplating, with demonstrated competence in design for manufacturing.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or another engineering field
• Minimum 7 years of experience in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, or high-rate production
• Strong background in new product introduction (NPI)
• Experience in scaling production, integrating new products, and driving cost reduction
• Knowledge of automation and advanced production technologies
• Experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and metrology tools for precision manufacturing
• Data-driven decision maker using analytics to guide process improvements
• Ability to work hard to meet ambitious goals and tight deadlines
• Ability to remain self-motivated after repeated failures until project success
