You will join a small, mission-driven engineering team as a Senior Mechanical Engineer responsible for developing products from concept through production. This is a high-ownership role with significant influence over product direction and engineering decisions.
Key responsibilities:
- Architect and design complex electromechanical systems, including plastic, metal, and soft goods components integrated with novel sensors and actuators
- Drive designs across the entire development lifecycle: brainstorming, CAD, prototyping, testing, and production ramp in Asia
- Solve cross-functional problems by collaborating with electrical, software, reliability, and manufacturing engineering teams
- Perform thermal, fluid, and structural analyses to ensure designs meet product goals
- Shape product direction by working with industrial design, marketing, product teams, and company leadership
The role is based in the San Francisco office, 5 days per week. Eight Sleep operates with intensity and high standards; the team is deeply committed and often works 60+ hours per week. The company emphasizes fast iteration, relentless execution, and pushing boundaries.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of consumer product design experience with knowledge of injection molding, sheet metal forming, and sensor/electronics integration
- Experience shipping high-volume consumer products, including manufacturing support in Asia
- Highly proficient with 3D modeling software (e.g., Solidworks, NX, Creo)
- Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA), tolerance analysis, functional dimensioning and geometric tolerancing (GD&T)
- Solid understanding of root cause analysis, design of experiments (DOEs), and quality measuring techniques
- BSME or equivalent
- Willingness and ability to travel to China as needed
