Salary: USD 146,000 - 194,000 / annual
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company transforming U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced autonomous systems and AI. The Maneuver Dominance team is building Thunder, an autonomous attack rotorcraft designed to operate alongside crewed combat aviation. This role supports the Thunder team's payload integration efforts, focusing on the critical challenge of integrating weapons, sensors, and radios into a compact airframe while maintaining reliable communications in contested spectrum environments.
You will own mechanical systems and platform development from concept through low-rate production. Your responsibilities include leading technical efforts to define requirements, propose solutions, and establish methodologies for evaluating and verifying mechanical systems. You'll work closely with electrical, software, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated, reliable, flexible, and cost-effective systems. Key activities include spearheading design reviews, conducting analysis, visiting vendors, prototyping, and implementing hardware test plans. You'll actively enhance team tools, templates, processes, and standards, and support critical hardware demonstrations with customers. Travel to test sites and vendors is required (25% with potential surges).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 7+ years of professional technical engineering experience (non-internship)
- Experience in immersive technical projects (collegiate teams or professional settings)
- Proven CAD skills (any platform; NX preferred) with ability to produce high-quality engineering drawings compliant with industry standards
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals: structures, fluids, thermal, and mechanisms
- MATLAB/SIMULINK/SIMSCAPE experience
- Manufacturing knowledge and experience with machine shops (sheet metal, CNC, etc.)
- Rapid prototyping background (structures/electronics/software) and 3D printing knowledge
- Proficient in hands-on prototyping: machining, shop tools, welding, soldering
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated hands-on fabrication skills
- Ability to travel 25% with potential surges above 25%
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with NX/Teamcenter
- Ability to integrate electronic components into mechanical designs (motors, controllers, sensors)
- Solid understanding and application of GD&T
- Advanced design skills for CNC machining, composites, sheet metal, injection molding, PCBA integration
- Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with qualification campaigns for flight hardware
- Familiarity with designing for rugged environments
- Understanding of MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-810G
- Experience with electro-mechanical and electrical design concepts
- Experience with Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Design Build Fly, or similar competitions
