Salary: USD 156,500 - 234,800 / annual
Pacific Fusion, founded in 2023 and backed by over $900M in funding, is developing pulser-driven inertial fusion systems to achieve net facility gain and deliver abundant, affordable, clean energy. The company is rapidly scaling its engineering team with world-class scientists and engineers from the fusion and hard tech sectors.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and validation of mechanical components and systems critical to advanced fusion energy systems. You will drive innovative mechanical design solutions for complex engineering challenges while maintaining ambitious timelines. Key responsibilities include leading design implementation and improvements across systems, working with vendors and manufacturers to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective, conducting structural mechanical analysis, performing design reviews, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, software, manufacturing) on system-level integration.
You will oversee detailed design documentation and specifications, stay current with industry trends in mechanical design and manufacturing, and participate in risk assessments and mitigation strategies. This role requires hands-on engineering expertise combined with leadership capability to mentor junior engineers.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years of professional experience. Advanced proficiency in CAD software (Creo preferred), FEA and/or CFD experience, proven track record of successful mechanical design launches, strong understanding of manufacturing processes and DFM principles, and excellent problem-solving skills. Master's degree or PhD is a plus. You should have experience in rapid iteration and creative problem-solving in laboratory settings, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
