CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Internal Missions team, responsible for the mechanical design and development of advanced communication satellites. In this role, you will own mechanical aspects of Cesium spacecraft, subsystems, and interfaces across all development phases—from concept through on-orbit operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Mechanical design and analysis of spacecraft structures, subsystems, and interfaces
- Electronics packaging and thermal architecture development
- Mechanical interface definition and management
- Spacecraft propulsion system integration
- Design of deployable and actuated structures
- Environmental qualification and testing of spacecraft components
- Requirements definition, architecture trades, and block diagram development
- Manufacturing, testing, and qualification support
- In-orbit support and troubleshooting
You will work on a small, collaborative engineering team developing satellites for launch into low Earth orbit (LEO). The company is building Element, a large rideshare satellite platform, with eight units planned for launch over the next four years, beginning this year. Your work will directly impact the company's success as you design, build, and iterate to reduce mass and cost while improving performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
The ideal candidate is versatile and proficient in mechanical analysis, CAD, thermal architecture, spacecraft propulsion, deployable structures, and environmental qualification. You should thrive in a startup environment with hands-on, autonomous work and cross-functional collaboration.
