Amca is rebuilding America's industrial base for advanced aerospace and defense manufacturing. The company operates seven factories nationwide and delivers critical avionics, hydraulic, and electrical components for military aircraft (F-35, F-16, F/A-18), commercial airliners (737MAX, 787, A320neo, A321), and military vehicles (Mk-48, M1 Abrams).
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will own the complete lifecycle of flight hardware components—from concept through qualification and production handoff. You'll design and analyze fluid systems (valves, regulators, solenoids) and structural mechanisms (actuators, switches, pistons), balancing performance with manufacturability.
Key responsibilities include: leading design and prototyping of new mechanical hardware across component families; generating detailed drawings, specifications, and risk assessments; driving trade studies and architecture decisions; leading Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR) as the responsible engineer; defining qualification strategies and setting technical direction; conducting root cause investigations on failures; mentoring junior engineers; acting as the technical authority for owned components; prototyping at the in-house R&D lab; managing vendor relationships through New Product Introduction (NPI); and representing Amca to customers in technical reviews and audits.
The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership and hands-on involvement. You'll work directly with build engineers, test engineers, manufacturers, and customers. The company values minimizing compartmentalized duties—design engineers perform their own concept design, analysis, and first-unit builds. As a senior member of an early-stage startup, you'll help define company design policies, testing standards, and best practices.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree (or advanced degree) in aerospace, mechanical, manufacturing, materials engineering, or engineering physics; 5+ years of mechanical or fluids design, analysis, and build experience; demonstrated ownership of at least one component or subsystem from concept through qualification or flight; track record of shipping hardware; strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and solid mechanics.
