Apptronik is a Series B human-centered robotics company developing AI-powered humanoid robots to support humanity across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and beyond. The flagship product, Apollo, is a collaborative humanoid robot built for scale and real-world impact.
You will join the actuation engineering team as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, leading the detailed design and analysis of electric actuators (rotary and linear) that power the next-generation humanoid robotics system. This is a hands-on role combining individual technical leadership with mentorship of junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead detailed design and analysis of actuators, including motors, drivetrains, electromechanical packaging, and joint/mechanism design
- Guide junior engineers to improve their designs and technical capabilities
- Collaborate with a small cross-disciplinary engineering team on concept generation and creative problem-solving
- Conduct engineering analysis (FEA, etc.) to drive design decisions and optimize performance
- Execute iterative design, prototype, assembly, and test cycles
- Create GD&T-informed technical drawings, bills of material, and procurement documentation
- Produce assembly instructions and finalize project documentation
- Participate in pilot builds of your designs
- Perform design verification and process review (DVP&R) to ensure designs meet requirements
- Iterate on designs to harden for scalability and design-for-manufacturability-and-assembly (DFMA)
You will work in a dynamic startup environment where you contribute both as a technical expert and as a mentor, directly influencing the development of hardware that will be manufactured at scale.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 6+ years of experience in development of actuation and/or robotic systems or similar
- Mastery of engineering fundamentals and first principles
- High proficiency in CAD (NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
- Demonstrated hands-on experience prototyping and testing mechanical components
- Strong knowledge of kinematics, structures (statics), dynamics, joints/mechanisms, and electromechanical packaging optimization
- Exceptional attention to detail, teamwork, and communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and manage conflicting deadlines in a startup environment
Preferred:
- Experience designing with planetary gears and linear transmissions
- Background in humanoid or legged robotics
- Understanding of motor control systems and PCB layout principles
