VEIR is a designer and manufacturer of superconducting power delivery systems for AI data centers and extreme energy applications. Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts, the company delivers ~10× higher power density than conventional options through next-generation superconducting technology. You will join the System Integration & Heat Transfer team as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, owning a major segment of mechanical design from concept through detailed design and production. This is a hands-on technical role with mentorship responsibilities. Key responsibilities: - Serve as subject matter expert in mechanical, thermal, and structural design for custom components and multi-process assemblies in superconducting systems - Lead design, development, and testing of key assemblies for low-voltage and medium-voltage superconducting systems from concept to fabrication - Conduct detailed mechanical and structural analysis using FEA to assess design and reliability, accounting for thermal, mechanical, and electrical interactions - Define mechanical requirements and oversee qualification testing for system components, managing internal and external resources - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system deployment and cryogenic thermal management integration - Review design calculations, drawings, and submittals from junior engineers, providing mentorship and guidance Required qualifications: - 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience with strong foundation in mechanical, structural, and thermal analysis - End-to-end product development lifecycle experience: concept through preliminary and detailed design into production - Proficiency in CAD, design for assembly of complex multi-body assemblies, first-order structural and thermal calculations, and FEA software - Experience creating engineering drawings for external fabrication - Familiarity with ASME 31.3 and/or BPVC standards; experience designing pressure vessels or similar components - Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration, vendor management, and team mentoring - Willingness to travel during product deployment phases Preferred: coding skills in MATLAB, Python, or similar languages.
