Arista Networks is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design and validation of next-generation data center networking hardware modules and chassis. This role reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and sits at the center of cross-functional product development, balancing structural integrity, thermal performance, electromagnetic compliance, manufacturability, cost, and tight time-to-market schedules.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conceptualize and evaluate mechanical design solutions that address competing requirements (cooling, EMC, safety, tolerances, aesthetics, cost)
- Develop detailed designs using PTC Creo 3D CAD, producing manufacturing-ready drawings and 3D files
- Design and optimize heat sinks based on thermal simulation data
- Coordinate peer and cross-functional design reviews
- Manage bill of materials (BOM), product releases, and engineering changes using PLM tools (Agile)
- Collaborate with electrical and PCB design teams on layout, placement, and final design validation
- Conduct or manage thermal and airflow testing to validate simulations
- Work with contract manufacturers (CMs) to resolve design-for-manufacturability (DFM) concerns
- Prototype validation and lab debugging against 3D CAD models
- Track external lab testing results and implement design refinements
- Participate in production sustaining meetings to resolve manufacturing issues
- Travel to Asia and North America as needed
Arista produces high-density networking switches with exceptional port density per rack unit, creating unique mechanical design challenges. You will work with a collaborative cross-functional team to bring innovative solutions to market quickly while meeting customer requirements.
Qualifications:
- BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
- Relevant experience in mechanical design of computer/network equipment for data center environments (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience designing sheet metal parts using soft and hard tooling guidelines
- Experience designing plastic parts for cosmetic and non-cosmetic applications
- Proficiency with PTC Creo (required); experience with Mechanica/Creo Simulate a plus
- Experience with thermal simulation and/or airflow testing preferred
- Familiarity with liquid cooling systems a plus
- Knowledge of PTC Windchill PLM tools a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
