Salary: USD 180,000 - 275,000 / annual
Arista Networks is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design and validation of next-generation data center networking hardware modules and chassis. This role reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and sits at the center of cross-functional product development, balancing structural integrity, thermal performance, electromagnetic compatibility, safety, manufacturability, cost, and aesthetic requirements while meeting aggressive time-to-market goals.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conceptualize and evaluate mechanical design solutions using Creo 3D CAD, producing detailed drawings, critical-to-function dimensions, and 3D files for prototyping and manufacturing.
- Lead peer and cross-functional design reviews to validate solutions against all requirements.
- Manage bill of materials (BOM) and product changes using PLM tools (Agile methodology).
- Collaborate with thermal engineers by providing 3D models for simulation and designing heat sinks based on simulation results.
- Conduct or manage air flow and thermal testing to validate thermal performance.
- Interface with ECAD teams on PCB design, placement concerns, and final design validation.
- Work with contract manufacturers (CMs) to address design-for-manufacturability (DFM) concerns.
- Prototype validation in the lab, debugging issues and communicating findings back to manufacturing partners.
- Track external lab testing results and incorporate feedback into design iterations.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to resolve production sustaining issues.
- Travel to Asia and North America as needed (some travel required).
Arista produces high-density networking switches with exceptional port density per rack unit, creating unique mechanical design challenges around cooling, component placement, and manufacturability. You will work with experienced engineers and product teams to bring innovative solutions to market quickly.
Requirements:
- BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
- Relevant experience in mechanical design of computer/network equipment for data center environments (preferred).
- Experience designing sheet metal parts using soft and hard tooling guidelines.
- Experience designing plastic parts for both cosmetic and non-cosmetic applications.
- PTC Creo experience (preferred).
- PTC Creo Simulate (Mechanica) experience (preferred).
- Thermal simulation and/or air flow testing experience (preferred).
- Liquid cooling systems experience (preferred).
- PTC Windchill familiarity (preferred).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
