Salary: USD 144,000 - 198,000 / annual
Archer is an aerospace company building all-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft designed to carry four passengers with minimal noise. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will own the mechanical design of flight-critical systems from concept through experimental flight testing.
Key responsibilities include designing structural components and flight-critical electromechanical actuation systems; designing mechanisms and kinematic layouts for flight control systems; creating detailed metallic parts and assemblies for actuation and propulsion integration; and owning the full prototype development lifecycle (requirements, design, BOM, procurement, assembly, testing). You will perform structural analysis and hand calculations to verify component margins and load paths, interface with suppliers on COTS solutions, create and review technical drawings and specifications, support requirements development, and collaborate across a multi-disciplinary engineering team.
Required qualifications: 5+ years of engineering experience; Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; exposure to flight-critical systems integration or design; proficiency in CAD (Solidworks, NX preferred) and TeamCenter; strong load analysis, FEA, and GD&T skills; experience designing complex metallic parts and weldments; familiarity with aerospace hardware standards; hands-on experience with carbon composite and metallic structures; and strong communication skills.
Bonus qualifications include aerospace or electrical engineering background; knowledge of electric powertrain or aerospace systems; experience with Simscape; mechanism design for flight control; deep understanding of electro-mechanical actuators; product development experience from concept through mass production; Part 23 certification or ARP4754A experience; and familiarity with Jira and Confluence.
