Relativity Space is building rockets (Terran R vehicle) and manufacturing infrastructure to serve commercial launch demand. The Tooling and Factory Automation team designs and develops tools, fixtures, and automated equipment that enable rocket and engine production at scale.
In this role, you will design and develop high-quality production tooling and automation solutions for the Terran vehicle and Aeon engine programs. You'll work across multiple projects of varying scale in a fast-paced environment, applying mechanical design principles, FEA, and rigorous drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) to create detailed tooling definitions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing assembly fixtures, material handling systems, off-loaders, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines
- Integrating mechanical design and analysis concepts across diverse projects
- Collaborating closely with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration teams to optimize for safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, and maintainability
- Managing projects end-to-end, including vendor selection, fabrication oversight, inspection, and equipment commissioning
- Contributing to factory automation initiatives that are critical to scaling production
You'll have autonomy to make decisions, propose solutions, and see your work directly impact the factory floor and rocket production. This is an opportunity to shape how rockets and factories are built at a company in a unique growth phase—early enough to leave your mark on product and process, but far enough along that the Terran R vehicle is tangible and gaining momentum.
