Relativity Space is developing the Terran R reusable launch vehicle to deliver payloads to orbit. The Materials and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) team is central to enabling the vehicle to fly, re-fly, and scale—developing, characterizing, and inspecting materials and processes across all vehicle systems, from welding and additive manufacturing to advanced composites.
As Senior Materials & Processes Engineer for Turbomachinery, you will own the materials and processes strategy for reusable liquid propulsion turbomachinery products and material systems. This is a high-impact individual contributor role with significant technical ownership and cross-functional influence.
Key responsibilities:
- Serve as the M&P owner for reusable liquid propulsion turbomachinery, driving materials selection, qualification, and process development
- Qualify turbomachinery materials and products for flight and reuse, ensuring reliability across multiple flight cycles
- Develop, implement, and maintain technical specifications and engineering standards for turbomachinery systems
- Design and execute statistically-driven experimental campaigns to validate materials, processes, and performance
- Interface with materials engineering staff to identify and close critical technology gaps
- Collaborate with laboratory teams on materials characterization and process validation
- Partner with design engineers on materials selection, allowables development, analysis, and qualification
- Work with manufacturing engineers to optimize cost and production rate while maintaining performance requirements
- Contribute to broader vehicle development and reuse strategy
