Anduril Industries, a defense technology company focused on advanced military systems and AI-powered autonomy, is seeking a Senior Materials & Process Engineer to join the Rocket Motor Systems (RMS) team. This foundational role will establish the materials and process infrastructure enabling RMS to scale from prototype development to high-rate production across solid rocket motor systems. You will serve as a subject matter expert for materials, processes, and specifications supporting propellants, motor cases, thermal protection systems, nozzles, and energetic components. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining material specifications for raw materials and assemblies containing polymeric constituents; creating process specifications for manufacturing operations including propellant processing, ablative component manufacturing, and bonding; and developing standard acceptance test procedures and NDI technique sheets for incoming materials and finished hardware. You will review and standardize existing work instructions into formal, configuration-controlled specifications with clearly defined process windows and acceptance criteria. The role requires leading materials characterization programs including mechanical testing, thermal analysis, rheology, cure kinetics, and ablation performance evaluation, with development of design allowables per industry standards (CMH-17, JANNAF). Additional responsibilities include providing materials and process expertise to Design and Manufacturing teams, driving material and process qualifications from development through production readiness, managing supplier technical relationships, leading failure investigations and root cause analyses, and mentoring junior engineers. You will interface across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and program teams to translate mission requirements into robust material and process solutions, while driving cost reduction and cycle time improvement initiatives. The role is based in Costa Mesa, CA with up to 50% travel to RMS sites in Mississippi, North Carolina, and Alabama.
