Airbnb is seeking a Senior Manager of Technical Program Management to lead the Infrastructure TPM team, driving multi-organizational programs across Data Infrastructure, Reliability Engineering, and Developer Experience.
The role involves leading a team of TPMs and shaping the technical direction of large-scale platform initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading multi-quarter, multi-team platform migrations and deprecations with clear exit criteria and minimal disruption
- Defining and securing stakeholder alignment on measurable success criteria (availability, SLOs, CI latency, cost, adoption)
- Driving phased rollouts and managing dependencies across data, reliability, and developer experience teams
- Preparing infrastructure for AI-driven scale, including CI systems, source control, and agentic developer workflows
- Partnering with engineering and finance on infrastructure efficiency programs and cost optimization
- Leading cross-org reliability programs including incident review, SLO adoption, and deployment-safety rollouts
- Owning infrastructure planning rhythms (OKRs, roadmap reviews, dependency mapping)
- Hiring, developing, and coaching senior TPMs while setting operating standards
- Presenting outcomes and trade-offs to senior leadership with clear communication
The Infrastructure TPM team supports three key areas: Data Infrastructure (batch, streaming, real-time data platforms, semantic metrics, query engines for analytics and ML); Reliability Engineering (observability, alerting, incident response, progressive delivery, automated rollback); and Developer Experience (source control, CI, build, code review, deployment, cloud development environments).
You will collaborate closely with data, infrastructure, and product teams across Airbnb to develop holistic solutions ensuring the platform is robust, highly available, and operationally transparent.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 12+ years in technical program management, software engineering, or SRE
- 5+ years leading and mentoring TPMs or managers of TPMs, with demonstrated ability to create inclusive and sustainable cultures
- Strong technical grounding in at least two of: distributed data systems (Spark, Trino, Flink/Kafka, Iceberg), Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure, observability platforms, or CI/CD and build systems
- Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguity, frame challenges crisply, and drive initiatives to completion
- Track record of leading multi-quarter, multi-team platform migrations or deprecations at scale
- Experience delivering infrastructure for AI workloads or AI-assisted engineering (feature platforms, LLM gateways, agentic tooling, CI/CD scaling)
- Deep familiarity with progressive delivery, canary deployments, automated rollback, SLOs, error budgets, and incident management
- Self-motivated, proactive, adaptable, with proven ability to work across teams with different operating cadences
- Sound business judgment, strong analytical skills, data-driven approach, and proven ability to influence results
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders
