SumUp is scaling its tax function to support a business spanning 40+ entities globally. This role is a senior strategic partner to the Global Head of Tax, leading the implementation and operationalization of corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and indirect tax strategy across the Group. You will own SumUp's tax agenda across these three pillars, overseeing the transfer pricing framework and proposing improvements to both substance and automation. You'll draft and maintain tax policies, controls, and governance documentation for Group entities, serve as the first point of contact for tax authority audits and controversies, and provide independent technical judgment on high-stakes tax positions. You'll partner with Tax Compliance and Tax Operations teams to ensure strategic positions remain compliant and operationally workable. Key responsibilities include leading Pillar Two and CbCR implementation, translating regulatory requirements into practical plans for affected markets, and leading, developing, and prioritizing the tax team. You'll deputize for the Head of Tax when required and help shape SumUp's IPO readiness through robust tax governance and risk management. This is a visible, high-impact role combining strategic leadership with hands-on technical delivery. You'll work on complex topics including corporate tax structuring, transfer pricing optimization, tax controversy management, and international expansion—acting as a true business partner to finance leadership and the broader organization. REQUIREMENTS: - Senior tax experience across corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and indirect tax in a multinational environment, combining strategic leadership with hands-on technical delivery. Comfortable working through detail yourself—modeling, documentation, return review—without relying on external advisers for day-to-day analysis. - Track record of building in-house tax expertise, with preference for developing capability internally and using external advisers selectively for specialist opinions and peer review. - Proven experience developing senior tax team members, including people leadership, prioritization, and performance development. - Strong knowledge of European corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and cross-border structuring, plus expertise in Pillar Two, CbCR, and EU Directives. - Experience leading tax audits and controversies, including extensive direct engagement with tax authorities. - Ability to translate complex regulatory and commercial issues into clear tax positions, communicated confidently to non-tax stakeholders such as finance leadership and auditors.
