Key responsibilities include:
- Lead delivery of SumUp's tax agenda across corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and indirect tax within the Group tax strategy
- Oversee the transfer pricing framework and its implementation, proposing improvements to both substance and automation
- Draft and maintain tax policies, controls, and governance documentation for Group entities, for sign-off by the Head of Tax
- Act as the first point of contact for tax authority audits and controversies, keeping leadership aligned on positions and exposure
- Provide independent technical judgment on high-stakes tax positions, challenging assumptions and bringing options and recommendations to the Head of Tax
- Partner with Tax Compliance and Tax Operations to ensure strategic positions remain compliant and operationally workable
- Lead Pillar Two and CbCR implementation, turning requirements into practical plans for affected markets
- Lead, develop, and prioritize the tax team, and deputize for the Head of Tax when required
This role reports to the Global Head of Tax and will have a direct impact on SumUp's IPO readiness. You will work on high-impact topics including corporate tax, transfer pricing, structuring, controversy, governance, and international expansion, acting as a true business partner to help shape how tax supports product, commercial, and strategic decisions across the company.
Requirements:
- Senior tax experience across corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and indirect tax in a multinational environment, combining strategic leadership with hands-on technical delivery. Must be comfortable working through technical detail yourself, from modeling and documentation to reviewing returns, without relying on external advisers for day-to-day analysis.
- Proven track record of building in-house tax expertise, with preference for developing capability internally and using external advisers selectively for specialist opinions and peer review.
- Demonstrated experience developing senior tax team members, including people leadership, prioritization, and performance development.
- Strong knowledge of European corporate income tax, transfer pricing, and cross-border structuring, along with Pillar Two, CbCR, and EU Directives.
- Experience leading tax audits and controversies, including extensive direct engagement with tax authorities.
- Ability to translate complex regulatory and commercial issues into clear tax positions, communicated confidently to non-tax stakeholders such as finance leadership and auditors.
