OpenAI's Procurement team is seeking a Senior Manager to lead end-to-end supplier master data operations. You will report to the Supplier MDM Lead and own the accuracy, verification, and readiness of supplier data across identity, legal entities, sites, tax documentation, payment methods, and banking information.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning supplier onboarding and maintenance across all data domains; setting service standards and accountability for results.
- Setting operating and capacity plans across demand, handling effort, backlog, and coverage; prioritizing work and assigning qualified owners based on skills and access requirements.
- Leading operational execution of sensitive-change controls, including independent identity and authority verification, documented evidence, qualified employee review, and backup coverage; maintaining segregation of duties across preparation, approval, implementation, invoice processing, and payment.
- Leading and developing the operating team and service partners through clear goals, coaching, performance management, cross-training, and quality review.
- Resolving complex supplier-data and synchronization failures across AP, Procurement Operations, Tax, Treasury, Security, and Finance Systems; establishing accountable owners and removing recurring causes.
- Directing supplier-data remediation including hierarchies, entity/site relationships, duplicates, holds, inactivation, and reactivation; reconciling open obligations and validating downstream effects.
- Owning the operating scorecard for first-pass readiness, critical-field completeness, queue aging, supplier wait time, rework, control evidence, and change-related payment exceptions; using trends to set priorities.
- Establishing an operating cadence and decision framework that protects transformation time, maintains reliable coverage, and converts recurring issues into prioritized improvements.
- Delivering measured improvements through AI and automation for validation, duplicate detection, queue monitoring, and evidence preparation; defining quality thresholds, access boundaries, and fallback procedures.
You will balance supplier readiness, risk, and capacity; resolve complex escalations; and use practical automation to help teams move faster with reliable data. This is a hands-on senior leadership role requiring the ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear decisions, develop people, and deliver lasting improvements.
Location: San Francisco, CA. Hybrid work model with three days per week in office (Monday–Wednesday). Relocation and travel requirements to be confirmed during recruiting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Substantial supplier master data, P2P (Procure-to-Pay), or finance operations experience with a track record of independently leading a complex operation and developing people or managing service delivery at scale.
- Deep knowledge of supplier identity, legal entities, sites, tax and payment data to improve purchasing and payment outcomes across systems.
- Experience owning operating controls in an audited environment, including segregation of duties, independent verification, evidence quality, and remediation of control gaps.
- Ability to make sound decisions under ambiguity and time pressure; translate business needs into practical options; resolve escalations across teams with clear accountability.
- Deep familiarity with ERP and procurement workflows; ability to trace data across systems. Oracle and Zip experience is helpful.
- Demonstrated ability to build capacity plans and service measures, coach teams through performance issues, and show sustained improvements in throughput, quality, backlog, and resilience.
- Practical AI fluency and experience improving workflows with automation, with measurable benefits and authorized human ownership of sensitive decisions.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and build trust across Procurement, AP, Tax, Treasury, Security, and technology teams through clear recommendations, tradeoffs, and follow-through.
