Wealthsimple is Canada's leading financial innovator serving 4+ million customers with $155B+ in assets under administration. The Clients & Accounts Platform (CAP) team owns the core client and account models at the heart of Wealthsimple's products—the foundation every other team builds on. This team delivers the fully digital, in-app onboarding experience that guides clients from sign-up to funded accounts in minutes with minimal human intervention.
You'll lead Accounts Engineering, a team of ~8 full-stack developers within CAP. This team builds new account types (Business Accounts, RESPs, etc.), defines core account configurations that unlock product features, and evolves the account domain model that the entire company depends on. The team operates at high velocity under real pressure—demand always exceeds capacity—and your role is to channel that into a high-quality, reliable team shipping work the company can depend on for years.
Key responsibilities include: building and leading a high-velocity engineering team (hiring, coaching, performance management, promotion); driving architectural alignment and ensuring projects ladder to the team's north star; partnering with Product and Data Science on roadmap definition and hard prioritization calls; reviewing and contributing to technical planning; owning operational excellence (reliability, on-call health, SLAs); and keeping the team on the leading edge of AI-assisted engineering across planning, code review, and incident response.
You'll need 4+ years managing high-performance software development teams through multiple product launches, with proven ability to coach and grow senior and staff ICs. Strong full-stack technical background is essential—system design chops are critical, and front-end depth is valuable. You lead from the front technically, can push back substantively in design reviews, and spot gaps in project plans early. You have a "ship it" mentality, set a high bar for pace and quality, and build team culture around it. You're comfortable operating under real pressure, treat capacity constraints as strategy problems, and make strong opinionated calls. You're metrics-oriented, don't speculate, and expect the same rigor from your team. You use AI as a core part of how you and your team work. You communicate effectively, make your team's work visible across the organization, and manage upward and across well.
Nice-to-haves: fintech or banking industry experience; experience managing both platform teams (where other engineers are customers) and product teams (where clients are); hands-on Rails, Kotlin, or React experience; deep backend and frontend development background; comfort writing SQL to answer business questions.
