8Fleet is a rapidly growing LA-based technology and logistics startup building operational infrastructure for autonomous and non-autonomous rideshare fleets. The company is seeking a Senior Manager, Safety, Risk & Compliance to lead and scale safety, risk, and compliance programs across a growing W-2 driver workforce and multiple operating locations.
Reporting to the Head of People, this role owns 8Fleet's environmental health, safety, workers' compensation, injury management, and regulatory compliance programs. The manager will partner closely with People, Operations, Fleet, Legal, and external vendors to reduce workplace and driving-related risk, ensure regulatory compliance, manage employee injuries and claims, and build scalable safety infrastructure as the company expands into new markets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing company-wide driver and workplace safety programs, policies, training, audits, and risk-reduction initiatives across all operating locations.
- Leading workers' compensation and employee injury processes, including injury reporting, claims oversight, investigations, return-to-work programs, and accommodations.
- Overseeing workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, safety incidents, and near misses; conducting root-cause analysis and partnering with Operations on corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensuring compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and applicable federal, state, and local workplace safety requirements, including programs, training, documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping.
- Owning pre-employment and ongoing background check and drug and alcohol screening programs for drivers, managing vendors, maintaining adjudication criteria, and ensuring compliance with FCRA, fair chance laws, and DOT/non-DOT testing protocols.
- Partnering with Operations and Fleet to identify driver safety trends, reduce preventable accidents, and establish consistent safety expectations.
- Managing relationships and performance of workers' compensation, occupational health, safety, screening, and claims vendors.
- Leading safety, screening, and risk compliance readiness for new market launches.
- Monitoring key safety and risk indicators and providing leadership with regular reporting on trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, Workers' Compensation, Transportation Safety, or related fields.
- Experience supporting a large hourly, driver, logistics, transportation, or multi-site workforce strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA/Cal-OSHA, workers' compensation, injury management, and workplace safety requirements.
- Experience managing workers' compensation claims, employee injuries, return-to-work programs, and external vendors.
- Experience administering background check and drug and alcohol screening programs, including FCRA, fair chance, and DOT or non-DOT testing requirements.
- Strong incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and risk-reduction experience.
- Ability to build scalable programs and processes in a fast-paced, growing organization.
- Strong communication and partnership skills across frontline employees, operational leaders, vendors, and senior leadership.
