Form Energy is seeking a Senior Manager to lead the newly formed Modeling, Simulation & Analysis team within the Electro-Mechanical Hardware organization. This is a hands-on leadership role reporting to the Senior Director of Hardware and Systems Engineering, based in Berkeley, CA.
You will build and mentor a team of thermal/fluids and structural analysis engineers while remaining actively involved in technical work. Your team will own structural, thermal, and fluid simulation (FEA/CFD) of Form's iron-air battery cell, module, and enclosure systems—from early architecture trade studies through production support. You'll establish Form's model validation and correlation practice, connecting simulation results to prototype and factory test data to ensure confidence in predictive models.
Key responsibilities include: managing and mentoring simulation/analysis engineers; owning FEA/CFD analyses across the battery system; translating product requirements into analysis plans; using simulation to drive early design decisions; and collaborating with battery, electrical, chemical, systems, and reliability engineering teams to optimize designs for performance, cost, and reliability.
You'll partner closely with multiple engineering disciplines and support design and build activities at both the Berkeley prototype facility and the production line in Weirton, WV.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 12+ years of experience (advanced degrees count toward experience); deep expertise in either thermal/fluids simulation (CFD/conjugate heat transfer) or structural analysis (FEA, static/dynamic) with working fluency across both; hands-on mastery of commercial CAE tools (STAR-CCM+, Ansys Fluent/Mechanical/Icepak, Abaqus, COMSOL) and experience automating workflows; 5+ years managing and leading simulation/analysis teams and mentoring engineers; demonstrated model validation/correlation against physical test data; and strong technical communication across functions.
Preferred: mechanical design ownership of shipped hardware; experience in high-volume manufacturing; background in batteries, energy storage, power electronics cooling, or thermal management; requirements definition and FMEA-driven development; and DoE/optimization-driven design exploration.
