Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the design and delivery of the ARC vacuum vessel, a critical component of the company's commercial fusion power plant. The vacuum vessel is a hundred-ton mechanical structure that surrounds the fusion plasma and must withstand extreme heat fluxes on the plasma-facing side while effectively removing heat via flowing molten salt on the other side. The structure must also be designed for replaceability via remote handling systems during regular plant maintenance cycles. In this role, you will lead a team of mechanical engineers responsible for designing and delivering this complex, interconnected component. You'll work on one of the most challenging engineering problems in the fusion industry—creating a structure that operates under extreme conditions while meeting stringent performance, safety, and maintainability requirements. Your leadership will be critical to the success of the ARC tokamak and the broader mission to deliver commercially viable fusion energy. This is an opportunity to shape the design of a world-first fusion power plant and lead talented engineers through a high-impact project. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams across the organization and work directly on advancing fusion technology from design through delivery. Commonwealth Fusion Systems has raised $4 billion in capital and is positioned as the leading fusion company globally, providing resources and momentum for ambitious engineering work.
