Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering to lead the design, development, and implementation of manufacturing processes and systems for commercially viable fusion power plants. This role sits at the intersection of advanced physics, cutting-edge engineering, and industrial-scale production—a unique opportunity to shape how fusion energy transitions from laboratory to grid-scale deployment. As Senior Manager, you will oversee a team of manufacturing engineers responsible for translating fusion reactor designs into manufacturable systems. Key responsibilities include: developing manufacturing strategies and process flows; managing capital equipment selection and facility layout; leading cross-functional collaboration with design, quality, supply chain, and operations teams; establishing manufacturing timelines and cost targets; implementing lean and continuous improvement methodologies; and ensuring compliance with nuclear and industrial safety standards. You will work closely with senior leadership to scale manufacturing capabilities as the company progresses from prototype to production phases. This includes evaluating make-vs-buy decisions, qualifying suppliers, managing manufacturing risk, and optimizing production economics. The role requires deep expertise in manufacturing engineering, process design, and team leadership in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. Commonwealth Fusion Systems has raised nearly $3 billion since 2018, positioning it as the world's largest private fusion company. The team combines decades of fusion research with world-class engineering talent and is actively building the energy infrastructure of the future. This is an opportunity to contribute to one of the most ambitious engineering challenges of our time while working with exceptional talent and resources.
