Serve Robotics is building autonomous sidewalk robots for last-mile delivery in urban environments. The company operates fleets across Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta, and Chicago, delivering packages while reducing street congestion and expanding delivery access.
As Senior Manager of Hardware Engineering, you will lead a team of hardware engineers responsible for the electrical and electronic systems powering Serve's autonomous robotic platform. This is a dual-track role combining people leadership with hands-on technical guidance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading, coaching, and developing hardware engineers with regular feedback, career development, and technical mentorship
- Managing team priorities, project assignments, and resource allocation aligned with product roadmap
- Providing technical leadership for design, development, integration, and validation of complex electrical and electronic systems
- Partnering with Mechanical Engineering, Embedded Software, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Product, and Operations teams
- Leading engineering planning, technical reviews, and project execution to deliver on schedule while maintaining quality and reliability
- Identifying technical and program risks, establishing mitigation plans, and removing execution obstacles
- Driving engineering best practices across design reviews, validation, documentation, and continuous improvement
- Supporting manufacturing readiness by ensuring designs meet cost, quality, reliability, and production requirements
- Collaborating with Product Management and leadership on priorities, timelines, and deliverables
- Participating in hiring, onboarding, and organizational development
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or related discipline
- 8+ years developing complex electromechanical, robotics, automotive, aerospace, or similar hardware systems
- 3+ years engineering management or technical leadership experience
- Experience delivering hardware products from concept through production
- Strong technical background in hardware design, PCB development, embedded electronics, sensors, power systems, motor control, and system integration
- Experience leading cross-functional engineering projects
- Strong project planning, prioritization, and execution skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and build high-performing teams
Desirable qualifications include Master's degree in related field, experience with autonomous systems/robotics/drones/automotive/safety-critical products, manufacturing scale-up experience, international team/partner experience, and high-growth startup background.
Role may require periodic travel to engineering sites, manufacturing facilities, suppliers, and field operations. Occasional work outside standard hours may be needed for critical milestones or releases.
