Unite Us is seeking a Senior Manager of Data Engineering to lead a high-performing team building scalable data infrastructure for healthcare and social services. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people management, requiring you to build and mentor a team of data engineers while driving the technical strategy for the company's data platform.
You will own the design and optimization of Unite Us' data lakehouse and infrastructure, ensuring it supports secure, interoperable access across all products. Key responsibilities include establishing engineering best practices (code review, testing, CI/CD, monitoring), managing the team's roadmap and capacity planning, and collaborating with product, application engineering, and leadership to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
The role demands deep hands-on expertise in modern data engineering: Apache Airflow for orchestration, Snowflake (or BigQuery/Redshift) for cloud data warehousing, SQL, Python, and tools like dbt, Fivetran/Airbyte, and Kafka. You'll also champion data governance, quality frameworks, and compliance—critical in a regulated healthcare environment.
You'll lead team hiring, define role requirements, conduct interviews, and build talent pipelines. You'll own on-call rotations, reduce operational toil through automation, and drive documentation practices including runbooks and architecture decision records. Cross-functional collaboration is essential: you'll partner with product managers, application engineers, and senior leadership to align data initiatives with business goals and report on KPIs.
This is an opportunity to have significant impact on the future of healthcare by enabling community-based organizations, government agencies, and healthcare providers to better collaborate and serve their communities.
