Vanta is seeking a Senior Manager to lead the AI Corporate Engineering team, which owns the internal AI platform infrastructure for 1,500+ employees. This role is responsible for building and scaling the foundational systems that enable safe, cost-effective, and well-governed AI adoption across the company.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead a small, senior team of platform engineers and technical program managers. Set clear direction, maintain high standards, and foster a culture where the team can challenge decisions with data.
- Own the complete AI access layer: identity and authentication for AI tools, connector and integration allowlisting, role-based permissions by function, and guardrails that make adoption secure by default.
- Drive AI cost engineering: build attribution down to team and individual level, optimize model selection to actual needs, ensure agent and automation spend is traceable, and establish budget thresholds and alerting in partnership with Finance.
- Manage the MCP (Model Context Protocol) layer for internal tools end-to-end, including commissioning, decommissioning, governance, and impact assessment before migrations ship.
- Establish the paved path for internal applications: define golden-path deployment patterns, implement private-by-default security, create lifecycle and decommissioning policies, and build a build-versus-buy framework.
- Build the enablement layer: create a skills and agent registry to reduce duplication, develop evaluation frameworks for internal AI usage, and provide technical enablement on sanctioned tools.
- Write and maintain the charter defining what Corporate Engineering owns versus enables, establish intake processes, and convene cross-functional forums to coordinate departmental AI efforts.
- Partner across Engineering, GRC, Security, Data, Finance, and People to coordinate and influence rather than override.
Ideal candidates have experience standing up internal AI or developer platform functions from scratch, strong AI cost engineering fluency, hands-on technical depth in LLM platforms and infrastructure, and 8+ years in platform/infrastructure engineering with 3+ years managing engineers. Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
